The fully rugged clamshell style laptop defined the rugged computer industry for decades. With the advent of rugged tablets and even more recently the two in one rugged laptop (rugged tablet with a detachable keyboard) the rugged clamshell design is still one of the more popular rugged computer form factors. The FZ-40 is the latest Panasonic fully rugged clamshell laptop. Building on decades of user feedback and research and development, the FZ-40 replaces the CF-31 as a workhorse computer with ultra rugged durability. With a 6 foot drop rating, IP66 ingress prtoection and both MIL-STD-810H and MIL-STD461G certifications, the FZ-40 is one of the most rugged TOUGHBOOK computers ever developed. Running on the latest Intel Ultra i5 and i7 processors, the FZ-40 is future proofed to provide desktop like performance in the most challenging of environments.
TOUGHBOOK 40 Optional Features
With a robust chassis, the FZ-40 has numerous options able to be included to customize the user experience and required specifications. Able to load up to 64GB of RAM, the FZ-40 can have up to a 2TB SSD main drive but then combine in a second drive up to an additional 2TB for a massive total of 4TB of SSD storage. With a range of xPAK expansion modules available for the FZ-40, a user can tailor a computer to new requirements in seconds. xPAKs for the FZ-40 include 2nd battery (for a total of 24 hours of operating time), Blu-Ray or DVD player, Barcode scanner, Contactless or Insertable Smart Card readers, fingerprint reader or a host of additional interface port additions. The TOUGHBOOK 40 boasts the latest Wi-Fi 7 BE200 and Bluetooth v5.3 signals. Optional wireless connectivity for the FZ-40 includes either 4G LTE (EM7690) or 5G and an optional dedicated GPS module (u-blox NEO-M9N.) Optional ANSI hazardous location certification allows the FZ-40 to be operated in C1D2 zones and brought into even more challenging environments. The options for the FZ-40 allow a user to truly tailor the computer to their exacting mission parameters.

While a bit bulky for a use case scenario where a computer will constantly be held, the FZ-40 is perfect for extremely challenging or rugged environments where an operator can't compromise on performance. Perfect for mounting a vehicle such as a public safety application, the FZ-40 is resistent against vibrations, drops, extreme heat and extreme cold.
