Panasonic Rugged Tablets

Panasonic rugged tablets emerged in the rugged industry as soon as computing technology allowed for them. In the early 2000s, Panasonic led the rugged technology industry with the release of the CF-07 as an answer to frequent customer requests for more portable rugged tech. Initially billed as a TOUGHBOOK, Panasonic rebranded the rugged tablet line into a stand alone TOUGHPAD family before merging the two once again under the TOUGHBOOK brand in the early 2020s. The FZ-G1 TOUGHPAD was met with critical and consumer acclaim as a highly durable, high performance and dependable workhorse. 

TOUGHPAD to TOUGHBOOK Evolution

As more and more jobs have adopted technology in the field, the requirements for rugged tablets continue to expand. With the portability of a tablet still needed, many operators frequently require the functionality of a keyboard. The FZ-G1 TOUGHPAD had numerous iterations of aftermarket attachable keyboards with the most noteworthy being the iKEY jumpseat keyboard. Built exclusively for the FZ-G1, the iKEY jumpseat keyboard added functionalty typically missing from a rugged tablet. The drawback to utilizing a non OEM product is quickly apparent with multiple different warranties, purchases and vendors involved in an equipment rollout. Panasonic brought together customer feedback with research and development and the FZ-G2 2-in-1 was born. Establishing an OEM keyboard option and taking all of the feedback about the pros and cons of a rugged tablet, the FZ-G2 is a great all around solution. With the portability of a rugged tablet and the optional functionality of a rugged laptop, the TOUGHBOOK G2 merges the best of both worlds. The FZ-G2 has multiple different OEM keyboard options including emissive backlit chiclet style keys as well as the more element proof membrane style keys. Both FZ-G2 keyboards add extra interface ports available to the user when docked with the tablet in addition to the 81 key keyboard and trackpad, greatly expanding how the user can engage the rugged computer.
